“The Old and the New”
In this performance, North Coast Chorale presents present-day compositions from both the Old and New Testaments by well-known artists.
“Prince of Egypt” is a Dream Works Pictures musical, which premiered in 1998, and showcases the emotions of the enslaved Hebrew people under the Egyptians praying for deliverance, along with the history and legacy of Judaism.
“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” is a 1972 musical comedy written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It is the story of Joseph, the favored son of Jacob, with his coat of many colors and the ability to interpret dreams; including that where Joseph becomes ruler over his jealous brothers.
“Jesus Christ Superstar” is a rock opera, also created by Andrew Lloyd Webber along with Tim Rice. This story focuses on the final weeks of Jesus Christ from the perspective of Judas Iscariot. Listening carefully, one can sense the psychological struggles of the characters, especially Judas who wrestles with Jesus’ leadership.

“Dark Night of the Soul”
A Christmas Choral Concert
Dec. 13th – 7 p.m. & Dec 15th – 4 p.m.
This concert is from the poem “Dark Night of the Soul” written by St. John of the Cross in the 16th century. The performance will be “telling the story of the first Christmas Eve; how it began at night with angels appearing to the shepherds and the Wise Men following a star. Starting with darker pieces, the Chorale progresses through a rising sense of excitement all the way to joy. No matter what faith a person comes from, that feeling of joy at connection with the Devine comes through. You know, you can’t have light without dark, and you can’t have music without silence.” (Dr. Vincent Centeno)
“Dark Night of the Soul” is a concert specifically designed to move the audience from the feeling of confusion and helplessness described in the poem, to a deeper, stronger feeling of joy through the music.
